Malta

Have you ever taken a language trip? Unfortunately, I did it only for three weeks.

Yes, you have read correctly, only for three weeks. After my experience I can tell you it could go longer. Because of my work and my opportunity to vacation, it was not longer possible for me to stay longer. As I wanted to freshen up and improve my English and because of the short time I had decided for Malta. This small country can be reached from Germany by plane in less than three hours and the national language is englisch.

I was excited and I don´t knew what to expect but I would not be disappointed. I have booked my language for april 2018 about Work and Travel. Work and Travel organised all important things like the flight, my accomodation and the regestration at the school. It was super easy and the people are very friendly.

At the airport in Malta I was picked up by a driver and brought to my accommodation in San Giljan. I arrived at saturday and the school started at monday, so I had enough time for look around the area.

San Giljan is a city on the nort east cost of Malta. The city is mostly known by the entertainment district Paceville with more than 350 clubs, pubs, restaurants and bars. I tell you, on this place every evening you can go dancing and drinking until 5 am. Accordingly, it is very loud! But San Giljan has a little port and a beautiful old town too.

I slept in a student building over a bar in a small penthouse with a gigantic balcony and a view over San Giljan and the sea. The view was really good.

School time

After being sorted on Sundays for a short english test in the school of a class according to my performance level, monday started at 9 am for me. I choosed the intensive class, that means I had an additional englisch class with intensive hours after the normal school time. Three days at week I had lessons with the focus on grammar and two days at week I had lessons with the focus of new vocabulary and talking. For each lesson unit I had a different teacher. My class consisted of 6 to 12 students from all over the world. Russia, Korea, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, France, Brasil, Venezuela etc. It was amazing.

The classrooms are very well equipped and very clean. The school has a bistro, a service board, a roof terrasse, a library and lounges. The teachers are very friendly and helpful.

Every week you have the possiblity for take a new english test for your new perfomance level. So it´s possible to change your class every week.

Freetime

The school offers a lot of freetime activites. In example a trip to Gozo or a sightseeing tour through Malta. Also sport activites like football and yoga, events, partys and trips like a wine testing or something. But you can also explore the country on your own. I booked some organized tours through the school, but mostly met after school with other students. It was my best decision because you speak englisch all the time and learn a lot. It´s not so easy to speak Englisch if all peoples aren´t perfect speaker and have dialects. But it´s definitaly the best way for learning. I met wonderful people like Galina from Russia, Luisa from Brazil and Cindy, Amaelle, Murielle, Aicha and Anny from France.

Malta

Malta isn´t a big island, you can find small streets, a lot of traffic, less green, warm temperatures, prickly pears, rabbits, fish and a lot of other beautfiul things to see. You don´t need a car. You probably wouldn´t find any parking in the narrow streets anyway. Malta has a perfect and very cheapest public transfer to all places and a good taxi service.

Valletta:

Valletty, the capital city of Malta in the south-west. In my time on Malta I visited Valletta more than onetimes. Valletta has beautiful alleys and on each corner you can shopping, eat or drink something. Everyplaces you can find great cafés or restaurants or dinky bistros. Valletta is perfect for a walk. I especially liked the harbor. He offers a great view and invites you to dream. Incidentally, the cannons are used twice a day at the port. Beautiful is the herald of the sunset. I recommend staying here for 2 or 3 days.

Gozo:

I like Gozo. Gozo is the biggest of the three island in the north and more green. You can find beautiful small buildings, not so much traffic and it´s quieter and more relaxed than Malta. One a day trip I visited this pretty small island with the ferry. Gozo is definitely worth a visit.

Popeye Village:

Popeye Village is a not longer used movie set of the movie “Popeye”. Popeye Village is a little freetime park with mini golf, movies, clowns, swimming possibilitys and a beautiful sea view. I think it´s more an attraction for familiys with young childrens.

Marsaxlokk

During my time in Malta, the annual fireworks competitions were held and the school offered a trip to first station in Marsaxlokk on the south-west cost of Malta. Malta is famous for its fireworks. I swear, I never saw such a firework before. It was breathtaking to see. In addition is Marsaxlokk a very cute small fishing place with a beautfiul small harbour with colorful fishing boats and small old streets. Every sunday the fishmarket takes places in Marsaxlokk.

In conclusion I can say that it was nice to have seen and experienced Malta. However, only the capital really convinced me. As a language holiday, however, definitely recommended, not only because English is the national language of Malta is also because the experience of a language holiday on Malta was indescribably beautiful.
